Sound It Out Speech

Hi families! I’m Amanda, mother of two and speech pathologist. I am a graduate of Cal State Northridge, with my Masters in Speech Language Pathology. I also have a BA in English. I have years of experience with children of all ages, starting with tutoring in my younger years, to my more recent experience as a speech therapist, and especially as a mother of two young children. I have been in the Speech Therapy field since 2002, with a range of experience in school programs, private clinics, home-health, and hospital/medical facilities. What I love most is working closely with the families. I love to have parent-involvement in their child’s therapy planning and progress, and parent coaching for greater success.

My previous therapy experience has given me the opportunity to work with and learn from teachers, occupational therapists and other related professionals. I’ve learned a lot about Sensory Processing Disorder and the benefits of adding movement and sensory techniques to speech therapy to be able to best provide a functional, productive learning environment for each child. With advanced training in the Lindamood-Bell learning programs, I’ve brought reading, comprehension, memory and visualization techniques into our therapy sessions. And finally, my advanced training in Stanley Greenspan’s DIR/Floortime model has taught me how to incorporate parents as each child’s main communication partner, utilizing the team approach to therapy, and the importance of building strong relationships. The combination of these programs among others, has allowed me to create a comfortable, natural setting for the children, where they and their families can thrive. I look forward to working with your family!
